Joachim Loew Rules Out German Recall For Kevin Kuranyi

The Bundestrainer’s decision not to consider the Schalke forward for the Nationalelf stands…

German national team trainer Joachim Loew has ruled out recalling Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi to the international set-up despite a spate of injuries to Lukas Podolski, Patrick Helmes and Miroslav Klose.

Lukas Podolski has withdrawn from the squad to face Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrick Helmes is a long-term absentee. Miroslav Klose is also a doubt with the injury which kept him out of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga opener on Saturday.

With Loew now potentially left with just Cacau and Mario Gomez in the forward department, he has however ruled out a recall for Kevin Kuranyi, who scored twice for Schalke at the weekend.

Kuranyi was told his international career was over last October when he walked out on the squad after being omitted from the Germany team to face Russia in a World Cup qualifier.

"I have told him that there will simply be no return for him while I am in charge," Low told ARD television.

"This decision still stands today."

It is believed that Loew may call-up Bayer Leverkusen’s Stefan Kiessling should Miroslav Klose not recover in time.
