I cant believe that some of these idiots, from different boards, actually think that Fiorentina played better than us and deserved to go through. I mean they had their moments and were giving us a good scare in the backfield but come on. Most of the first half, and other than the first 15 minutes of the second half we ran the pitch. They had us beat twice and had almost 30' to put the game away and couldnt. Fuck them, fuck their booing fans at Alaba and fuck the Violas!

Reaction to Fiorentina v Bayern
Van Gaal: We’re through, which is what matters
Quote:
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “We’ve witnessed a very turbulent game. The first reaction is elation at making it through to the last eight. That was our target, and that’s what should be expected of us. We defended poorly for their first and third goals. There were individual mistakes, so they were avoidable goals.“
Christian Nerlinger: “It was a very exciting match, and although we’ve lost, it’s a defeat we can live with. We’re just delighted to be through to the next round. This team has resolve and character, and always manages a fightback. That’s how we kept finding a way back into the game and why we deserve to go through. There’s a lot of quality in the team. We’re in the last eight now, and that’s a great achievement.“
Louis van Gaal: “We’re through, which is what matters in the Champions League. I always had a good feeling about it. At half-time, I told my players to stay calm, be patient and keep the ball on the floor. We played well in the circumstances, but made too many individual errors in defence.“
Mark van Bommel: “There were a few nervy moments in front of our goal, but I don’t think we were that bad. I never had the feeling we’d be knocked out here. After going a goal down, we controlled the play without creating anything dangerous. Fiorentina only got into the game because we made mistakes. But we kept our cool and deserve to go through.“
Franck Ribéry: “Making the next round is very important. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, and the weather wasn’t any help to us. It was extremely hard work in the first half. It’s been a terrific team display, we played well as a collective. We can achieve a lot together as a team.“
Bastian Schweinsteiger: “The wind was incredibly strong. We played against the wind in the first half and it held up every ball. We had the wind at our backs after half-time, and I don’t know if Arjen’s brilliant goal would have gone in without the wind. We’re delighted to be through, as that was our target. Let’s see what happens in the draw. Maybe we’ll avoid the really top teams at this stage.“
Philipp Lahm: “Our target was a place in the quarter-finals, and we’ve made it. We improved after going a goal down, we let the ball do more of the work. Yet again, we’ve shown we’re always good for a goal or two. And it was a shade easier with the wind behind us in the second half.“

Van Gaal: ‘We coped better than Fiorentina’
Quote:
Interviewer: Congratulations on making the next round. You must have been a happy man at the post-match banquet...
Van Gaal: “Getting through was the vital thing, but I’m a coach, so I always want to win. Yesterday we lost.”
Interviewer: Can a coach sleep the night after such a nerve-shredding match?
Van Gaal: “I can always sleep.”
Interviewer: So you can just switch off, even after a game like that?
Van Gaal: “I wouldn’t be able to if I’d made mistakes, and I do make mistakes. But I always sleep well if I don’t believe I made any mistakes.”
Interviewer: How would you rate your team’s performance?
Van Gaal: “I think we played very well yesterday, especially given the conditions. It was hard work, but I reckon we coped better than Fiorentina. But they scored their goals, even if we made the individual mistakes, and one was offside, the second goal to be precise. Fiorentina were upset about the first leg and I can understand that, but not any more, because they’ve scored an offside goal as well.”
Interviewer: 17-year-old David Alaba gave a terrific display. Were you expecting him to remain so calm and collected?
Van Gaal: “I think it’s normal, once I believe a player’s ready for a particular match. I’ve done it often enough in the past. I put Seedorf in my first team when he was 16.”
Interviewer: Is making the next round a boost for your forthcoming matches?
Van Gaal: “I don’t know, because I’m still thinking about a defeat. I don’t think we’ll lose very often, but yesterday was a decisive match, and we have to win the decisive matches. But we failed. I’m not entirely convinced it’ll give us a boost.”
Interviewer: But it could be important in terms of developing the team.
Van Gaal: “I thought that too: we lost, but it could help our development. We’ve had to make changes every week. Robben was sick, Ribéry was injured. Now it’s Contento and I’ve had to pick a 17-year-old, so it disturbs our rhythm. But we’ve played well and scored two wonderful goals from open play, which I think is important. We can review the game positively.”
