Louis van Gaal bans Bayern Munich players from going to discos

Quote:
German newspaper Bild reports this morning that new Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has banned his players from going to discos.

The Dutch coach said he will have informers at many of the night clubs in Munich including Munich P1, probably the most famous disco in the city.

The former AZ Alkmaar coach also banned night club activities during his spell at Barcelona.

Bayern Munich’s new sports director said: "We want our players to behave professionally and have the right attitude towards the club."

Hamit Altintop appeared to be visibly annoyed about this new rule saying: "Work is work. Private is private. The coach hasn’t said anything about this to us."

That kinda sucks.

I understand of behaving and such at dancing clubs and all. But ban it completely? That's pretty shitty.

New methods and a new role
Keepers learning to be first line of attack

Quote:

“It’s a good way of creating more of a match situation for our work on crosses,” Walter Junghans explained to fcbayern.de, gesturing at the 1.90 metre inflatables. “Obviously, the mannequins don’t move around, but the keeper still has to position himself to deal with them, and he has to run or leap round them, like he would in a game,” the goalkeeping coach continued.

Off to Donaueschingen
Ribéry part of full squad for training camp

Quote:
Fifteen days after the official start of pre-season, Louis van Gaal and his team are preparing to set off for this year’s summer training camp on Thursday. Just as in 2006 and 2007, the Bayern party is staying in the Öschberghof hotel in the picturesque surroundings of Donaueschingen, on the edge of the Black Forest some 50 km from Freiburg and half that distance from the Swiss border. With a break for this weekend’s T-Home-Cup at the Schalke Arena, Van Gaal and his troops will spend their time until 24 July on intensive preparations for the new season.

The coach will take charge of a full squad. “All 27 players are going,” reported director of sport Christian Nerlinger in a midweek interview with FCB.tv. Franck Ribéry will also board Thursday’s flight to Donaueschingen. “He’ll complete a lighter programme in the weights room until the end of the week before resuming the team schedule,” Nerlinger said.

Confed Cup combatants Lucio and Luca Toni return to Munich on Thursday more or less refreshed from their end-of-season exploits. The pair will take part in the morning session at the Säbener Strasse and travel on to the training camp.

The Donaueschingen party includes all the assistants, fitness coaches, physios and support staff. Little wonder that the kitmen had so much lifting to do on Wednesday.

Seniors v Reserves
Jonker supervises full-up practice match

Quote:
A full complement of match officials led the teams onto the field, the dug-out was packed with coaches, physios and subs, a crowd of some 500 watched intently, and fan clubs hung banners over the safety fence – what looked just like a genuine match at the Säbener Strasse on Tuesday afternoon was, in fact, a genuine match. The Bayern seniors and reserves battled to a 5-5 draw after 90 full-blooded minutes of play.

A full-up practice match certainly provided the ideal platform to achieve both those goals. Tuesday’s match featured two halves of 45 minutes between a ‘first-team’ line-up comprising seven senior players and four reserves, against the remaining second string players, augmented by a handful of talented youths. Daniel Sikorski (2), Diego Contento, José Sosa and Thomas Müller scored for the seniors, with four-goal man Nazif Hajdarovic and Manuel Duhnke netting for the reserves.

Van Gaal had a two and a half-hour long meeting with Löw, Flick, Bierhoff and Köpke in Munich on Wednesday.

Among the topics discussed:

- What does FC Bayern's 4-3-3 formation mean for Gomez's and Klose's playing time ahead of the 2010 World Cup?
- Thomas Müller. (Löw doesn't want to rule out a 2010 World Cup call-up for Müller.)
- The National Team schedule. (Unlike Hoeness, van Gaal sees no big conflict between club and International football.
Van Gaal and Löw want to work together in the future in order to avoid the old controversy between FC Bayern and the DFB.)

On the mend
Van Buyten reports fit, Olic up and running

Quote:
Louis van Gaal gave the players a day off on Thursday, hoping for “clear heads“ ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga encounter with Schalke 04. What is certain is that the coach will be able to call on fresh legs, as Daniel van Buyten has shaken off a calf injury and has reported fit for the showdown against the Royal Blues.

Van Buyten, who would normally have been substituted due to the injury in last week’s league trip to Stuttgart, joined Thomas Müller, Arjen Robben and Breno for a training workout lasting some 90 minutes. Van Gaal in fact only released the players who were in the squad for the Bordeaux clash on Wednesday, so Van Buyten, Müller, Breno and number three keeper Thomas Kraft reported for duty as normal on Thursday, while Robben continued to work on catching up for time lost following surgery some four weeks ago.

Olic goes jogging

Breno has some ground to make up too. The Brazilian has been out for the last two weeks after contracting a salmonella infection and has spent the last few days on a tailored programme with sports rehab coach Thomas Wilhelmi. He is scheduled to resume the squad programme on Friday, and will continue to put in additional sessions as he regains fitness.

There was also positive news of Ivica Olic. Three and a half weeks after rupturing a calf muscle, the Croatia striker was able to go jogging for the first time on Thursday, taking a small but important step towards resuming the squad programme. Franck Ribéry (patellar tendon) and Christian Lell (gastroenteritis) remain sidelined at the present time.

Great! We need someone who can fill the hole that MvB creates and we need someone who can score up front. Now all we need is a trainer who can lead and inspire!
