Actually, I pretty much agree with Uli.

The problem is that the club structure, and rules in Germany severly limit your options. If FC Bayern were allowed to negotiate its own TV contracts and carry huge debt loads like all of the other big clubs, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Liquid assets:

2004/2005 - 78 million euros
2005/2006 - 95 million euros
2006/2007 - 91 million euros
2007/2008 - 27 million euros

This explains why we didn't spend much last summer.

Exactly. I was talking with a bunch of Spanish football hooligans... cuz thats what they are...LOL.. and they were telling me how their government runs their tv rights for football and how much extra cash the government throws in for football. If thats the case, then Uli is 100% correct.

The DFB and the rules surrounding German football are just shit. Bayern, being Germany's biggest club, need to break away from the pack if we are to stay competitive with the rest of Europe. Who cares about being fair to the other German clubs, they just drag us down anyway -- including Werder and Shalke. Bastards.

I both agree and disagree with you on this. Either the DFB need to change the rules a bit or Uefa need to crack down on other leagues, which they say they will but we all know they wont.
HOWEVER and this is a big however, I care about the rest of Bundesliga and I am not alone in this. I want Bundesliga to be better than it is. If Bundesliga gets weaker, so do we. If it were the difference between us being a powerhouse in Europe and fucking the rest of Bundesliga and turning it into something like Ligue 1 or Eredivisie... no thanks. But that is easily said because Bayern is a powerhouse in Europe, granted not as good as we once were but better than most in Europe and we will become just as good as we once were.
As far as "other clubs dragging us down"... without sounding like a motivational poster, we are the ones who control our destiny. Its up to us how far we make it into CL, not Schalke or Werder.

Van Gaal: "Winning the Champions League is the long-term aim, but I will need more time than the two years. Maybe it's a utopia that will become reality after my spell."

"If I enjoy success here I can imagine staying a very long time."

"The culture of this club and this city suits me well. It's a warm-hearted club, homely - just like me."

^I see very nice words coming out of Van Gaal's mouth, but we need to see some results.

Exciting - yet scary. The current shape of our squad I sure hope that we don't get Real, Juventus, Inter or Lyon from pot 2. I truly believe that we do NOT have a team worthy of going to the round of 16. Having Rensing as keeper, noone decent in defense except Lahm (that's if he is having a good day), Midfield only has Ribéry when he isn't injured (and becoming Mr Glass) -- but our forward line is decent enough. The problem is we could have the best forward line in the world but without great service from midfield and a strong defense to prevent the other teams from scoring (especially on away goal rules), we are toast.

Actually last season was a good performance in the CL. Just the Barca match in Camp Nou was terrible, but besides that we were having a very good season.
