Against Italy we lost twice in 2006, with a 4-1 at their place and then 0-2 at home. We played a really easy group with Costa Rica, Ecuador and Poland. Now I'm not saying that with any other coach, we could had done the same WC that we did, but come on guys, Klinsmann didn't do anything to our players self-confidence, if he had done that then we could had won against Italy, exct before the WC. Jürgen Klinsmann is not the reason why Germany had a good WC in 2006, the reason for that was the atmosphere of the fans that lifted up the performance of the German NT. Stamina and pure stamina. Now on EURO 2008, we saw a different Germany, less showy in football but more tactical. And we beated Portugal (when it mattered, since in WC 2006 it was the 3rd place match and we didn't play to our full potential) and we also beated a very good Turk team. Unfortunattly, we had to play against a Spain that was on fire. |

We never played fully well at Euro '08. We made it JUST past our group stage. Our only good game was against Portugal and even then, we made many mistakes leading to Portugal's goals. If it hadn't been that Turkey was so injury hit, I doubt we would have gotten past them. I mean. 3-2 vs a very weakened side by injures. And in the final, we played so bad Lehmaan was our only good player out there. That's how bad it was. |

We didnt play well at all in Euro-08. It was lazy and sloppy. There were a few moments of brilliance but overall it was complete slop. We got into the finals by luck. When we last played Azerbaijan... that type of play reminded me of how we played in Euro-08. |

I think I'll take the position that a friend of mine once told me (my friend is Italian):
Quote:
1. Zidane's head on Materazzi chest! ![]() 2. Italy as World Champions. 3. Ronaldo passing Gerd Müller as the best forward in the World Cup history. |

1) it wont happen 2) thats not how we play 3) it wont happen What I am trying to say is that we can play like crap against teams like Azer, S.A., Switzerland, Austria, the list is long BUT... and win but when we come up against teams like Russia, who arent the best but do put upper tier teams in the dirt if they dont play to their potential, we need to keep the pressure up, we need to either play like we used to - come out and score first and then suffocate the opposition and wear them down or come out score first and keep bringing the ball up with blitzing counter attacks and dont let up. Right now we are doing neither. Lazy, sloppy, make way too many mistakes and give the ball up to easy. Last match Ballack only won 29% of his battles... simply not good enough. What it looks like to me when we are on the pitch, as of late, there is no urgency. It looks like we arent taking this seriously enough. |

Anyone see this yet?
FRANKFURT (AP) — Germany will practice on artificial turf ahead of its potentially decisive World Cup qualifier in Russia next month. Germany to practice on artificial turf - USATODAY.com Some say its not a big deal but for me it sounds like a severe lack of forethought. Didnt Russia see this coming over 12 months ago? European clubs demand playing on natural turf when the play in the US or they dont go, plain and simple... and thats just for friendlies. |
