Müller slams Germany strikers

Legendary Germany forward Gerd Muller has launched a scathing attack on the nation's current crop of strikers, claiming they would not have stood a chance of playing alongside him in his heyday.

The 63-year-old, who is assistant to Mehmet Scholl in Bayern Munich's reserves, scored 365 goals in the Bundesliga and 68 goals in just 62 caps for Germany in a glittering career. But he has criticised Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez and Lukas Podolski ahead of next week's crucial World Cup qualifier with Russia.

"When you see what strikers we have in the national team today - in my day, they would not have even been allowed to even sniff the ball,'' the 1974 World Cup winner told DSF television.

Only one German striker is deserving of a place in coach Joachim Low's attack, according to Muller, and that is his namesake Thomas Muller, who is making a good impression in his first season as a professional with Bayern Munich.

"He is an incredible young lad,'' Muller said. "He can use both his left and right foot, like me. He is quick, strong in the air and he is one that can be taken to the World Cup.''

However, Low has defended the three strikers he is almost certain to name in his squad this week, insisting times have changed since Muller hung up his boots.

"I have the utmost respect for players like Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer and Gunter Netzer and they are role models today, but you cannot make comparisons over decades,'' he told Bild newspaper.

"It has become incredibly difficult for strikers. Football has developed particularly in the art of defending. Nowadays, strikers don't even get five minutes worth of the room that the strikers used to get over 90 minutes in a game.''

On 6th October, 2009 The Under-21 played a friendly against Slovenia. The Germans won 3 - 0. Julian Schieber of VfB Stuttgart was on target twice for the team of DFB coach Rainer Adrion.

Today the Under-21 played a friendly against Israel, the game ended 0 - 0.

Germany Meet Argentina In International Friendly Ahead Of 2010 World Cup

Germany have arranged an international friendly with Argentina in the build-up towards the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The sides will meet on March 3 at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena.

According to the German FA (DFB), the fixture will be repeated in August 2012.

"I am really pleased Argentina have agreed to this game," Germany coach Joachim Loew told the DFB's official website.

"Although they had a few problems in the South American World Cup qualifying campaign, they are still one of the strongest teams in the world in my eyes.

"We will have to be at our best against Argentina, and the game in Munich is a real test for our team ahead of the nomination of the squad for the World Cup in South Africa."

Germany have also arranged friendly matches with Chile and Ivory Coast next month. They will stage a get-together in early 2010, when Loew will assess the fitness and form of the players he has in mind for the World Cup finals.

Kießling to get Germany chance

Löw has closely followed the amazing rise of Thomas Müller, who has been a regular for FC Bayern München all season. The 20-year-old has been preferred over several stars for the Bavarian giants, so why shouldn't he get his chance for Germany?

Werder Bremen's Aaron Hunt is another potential candidate according to Löw, who is eagerly awaiting the World Cup group stage draw on December 4th when Germany will learn who they'll face first in the South Africa tournament.

Yesterday Germany under-21 beat San Marino 11-0
Bayern players Holger Badstuber and Thomas Muller both scored. While for Bayern product Mats Hummels scored a hat-trick.

That is exactly what has happened in the Central American and South American football teams. In the las years teams like Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Venezuela have raised their game a lot and not long ago they were as shitty as San Marino.

Yeah, but sometimes is better to not play at all than get humiliated. Their tiny population does not help either. They have to be extremely lucky for these types of teams to win or even tie a game. I personally would not like for my country to get beat up by every national team they play against.

Actually i like this teams they always manage to amke us happy LOL if it weren't SAn MArino Germany would propapbly never score eleven or 13 goals to another so let them be they give us good publicity and by the way only Germany wins in this high by these teams not everyteam

Well the last time Germany played San M I think the score was 13-0 and now our youngsters beat them only 11-0... so technically they will be getting better.

Löw extends contract
