Wolfsburg Appoint Former Twente Boss Steve McClaren As Manager - Report

Quote:
Former national team boss becomes first Englishman to coach in the Bundesliga...

Wolfsburg have appointed former England manager Steve McClaren as their new boss, according to reports.

The club won their first Bundesliga title in the 2008-09 season, but things have been on a downward slide since then. They finished eighth in the German league this time around.

The ex-Middlesbrough gaffer successfully guided FC Twente to their first Eredivisie title since 1926, and was linked with moves to a clutch of clubs including Celtic, West Ham United and Hamburg, as they were experiencing trouble at the helm.

Now The Times claims that the 49-year-old has put pen to paper and signed a two-year deal with Wolfsburg.

The tactician has thrown away a chance to manage a club in the Champions League, but it is believed that with the support of the Volkswagen group, the German club could reach new heights in due course

Real Madrid Closing In On Wolfsburg Star Edin Dzeko - Report

Quote:
Real Madrid are reportedly close to signing Wolfsburg striker Dzeko...

Bosnian international Edin Dzeko is continually being linked with a move away from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and initially appeared to be on his way to Italian titans Milan.

However, Milan are reluctant to meet Wolfsburg's asking price and the prolific hitman could now join Real Madrid instead. The Blancos have supposedly told Wolfsburg that they're ready to match Dzeko's €40 million release clause.

According to a report in Wolfsburger Nachrichten, the 24-year-old attacker has already landed in Madrid to open contract negotiations with Real and Dzeko is supposedly eager to join the Spanish powerhouse.

Wolfsburg and Real Madrid haven't commented on the rumours yet, but Dzeko could agree personal terms with Real in the upcoming days if the report is to be believed.

Dzeko has been Wolfsburg's star player in the past couple of seasons. The highly rated attacker has scored 57 goals in 94 Bundesliga appearances for the Wolfe so far.

Misimovic: "If Atletico asks for me, I'll leave for Spain."

Quote:
Apparently Misimovic wants a change from the Bundesliga and from Wolfsburg for that matter. His destination will most likely be Spain and more concrete: Atlético de Madrid. Misimovic who played for Bayern, Nürnberg and Wolfsburg wants a new challenge and for the correct price he will leave Germany.

Arne Friedrich signs for VfL Wolfsburg

Quote:
Arne Friedrich is on the move to VfL Wolfsburg. The central defender from the German national team, who are currently turning heads at the World Cup in South Africa, not least due to his impressive performances, has signed a three year deal with the 'Wolves' until June 30th 2013. Yesterday evening (01.07.), VfL Wolfsburg and his former club, Hertha BSC Berlin, where he was captain for many years, agreed on the terms of the transfer.

"We are very happy that Arne made the decision to sign for us and that the subject is now closed," said Dieter Hoeneß, chairman of the VfL Wolfsburg board of management: "He is once again proving his class and quality right now with the national team. Arne will not just aide the team with his experience and strength as a player, but also as a personality. He will surely help us to stabilise the defence."

31 year old Friedrich, who has so far made 76 appearances in the German national team jersey, made a total of 231 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha BSC (2002 – 2010) and also played in 47 second division games for Armenia Bielefeld (2000 – 2002).

Damn.

I was kind of hoping Bayern made a move for him. His performances in the WC has really impressed me.

By far, one of the best playing Germans at the moment.
