Very unfair criticism. Really unfair.

Mario isn't Olic, but he is far from being like Berbatov. He pressures defences, he makes a lot of runs off the ball and at the start of season you'd see him drop deep and even cut inside from the wings (he stopped this now, seeing as he's the target man and Müller is the one dropping deep).

Gomez is a finisher, a bit erratic at times, but still a finisher. He's a tall, strong, box player, with good presence and technique. If you watch him at Stuttgart, you'd see his perfectly timed runs and his superior finishing ability. That's the kind of player he is. What is being asked of him now isn't what he's good at, so you can't just blame him for everything that's wrong with the team when we don't win or don't play well. He is the player, after Butt, who less contributes to the build-up of attacking plays because that's the role Van Gaal put him in!

His form started to drop once Olic was benched for Ribery. Müller has a lot of potential, but I don't think he's ready to play such an important role in the line-up, he doesn't have the creativity, vision or the passing ability. Olic doesn't either, but he has other attributes which combine better with Gomez.

Theres no reason to apologise, you're right on stating your opinion. Dont worry bout it. Gomez had a good run before the winter break, he should work hard to get it back, he hasnt scored in like 3-4 games now ??
Btw, Miguel here is a BIG BIG Mario Gomez fan, if someone says somethin against Gomez its like sayin Ricardo was a great keeper for Portugal for the past decade.

Obviously the change from Stuttgart to Bayern was a big step for him and still he has been our best striker this season. He'll be successfull at Bayern, I can bet anything on that.

PD: He is better, younger, faster and German! Something Toni is not. Comparing him with Klose is stupid, since both are totally different types of strikers.

Gomez sidelened for two to three weeks

Quote:
Mario Gomez is facing a two to three-week lay-off after rupturing a muscle in his right calf during Bayern’s 3-2 Champions League quarter-final defeat away to Fiorentina on Tuesday evening, FCB chief medical officer Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt has informed fcbayern.de.

The Germany international, currently the Munich club’s top scorer this season, will be back in contention for the home Bundesliga fixture against his former club VfB Stuttgart on 27 March at the earliest. Just a few days later, on 30 or 31 March, Bayern will contest their Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Gomez sustained the injury midway through the first half in Florence and limped off after 30 minutes, to be replaced by Germany team-mate Miroslav Klose.

Klose is the man. I want him back! Although I am sad about Gomez, I prefer Gomez to Müller currently...

There was positive news of Mario Gomez on Sunday.

Some two weeks after rupturing a muscle in his calf, the Germany international has been cleared to go running on Monday.

LvG really needs Gomez. I think LvG is going with 5 in midfield and one central striker, and that striker is Gomez. Klose can't play that role, and Müller can't either. Olic might, with allowing more attacking roles by Robben and Ribéry, but Gomez will probably be playing some part in the ManU game.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Mario Gomez:

Quote:
“The Bayern shirt can be a difficult one to wear. For many players it’s not easy to cope with the pressure it brings. Mario Gomez is a very young man, but he has talent of the highest class. We are all convinced that Mario will be a sensation next season. This season we have had several games in which we have been very glad to have a Mario Gomez up our sleeve.”
