According to "Kicker", Ribéry leaving training was purely a pre-caution measure and even though he will miss tomorrow's friendly match against Gelb-Weiss Görlitz, he should be available for Saturday's match against Mainz.

In an interview with "Sport Bild", Uli Hoeness said that FC Bayern would have sold Franck Ribéry for €100M. Was he worried that someone would pay it? "I was one day. Someone told me we were about to receive a €100M offer, not from Real Madrid. At that time, I said to myself: 'now Franck is gone'. But, it was just a misunderstanding. They wanted to include 3 players in that deal. I was really happy when I heard that."

They already did earlier this summer. In July I believe. they offered to double his salary and extend his contract until 2013 but he rejected the offer. Maybe because there was a chance he was going to Madrid, maybe not, who knows?

Hoeness: "I don't intend to talk to Ribéry about a contract extension at the moment. First, we need to calm down."

"If we win the Champions League twice, I'll have no problem to let him leave on a free transfer in 2011."

Its best to have him play a half a season and get some success with the team, then see if things can work out. Bayern have the money and class to keep a player like Ribéry, so lets hope the player wants to stay for a few more years. It would be a wish to have Ribéry stay until he retires, but all I can hope for is an extension until 2013 or 2014.

Franck Ribéry spent more than an hour on Thursday running round the FCB practice ground, chivvied along by fitness coach Thomas Wilhelmi. The France star sometimes sprinted, sometimes jogged, occasionally slalomed his way through poles set up for the purpose, and occasionally zig-zagged through cones. It was hard work – and it was just the start of a tough week for the midfield ace. “We’ve agreed he’ll spend the week performing very physical exercises,” revealed Louis van Gaal. Largely as a result, Ribéry has already been ruled out of this Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to Mainz.

“He can’t play against Mainz,” confirmed Van Gaal. After weeks on the sidelines with a knee problem, and in the wake of a groin strain last week, the dribbler lacks the fitness for the top flight right now. “Ribéry was injured for much longer than he’s trained,” the coach explained, “he’s trained well for a week, but it’s not enough. Every player needs to work on his reserves of physical fitness.”

That is exactly what Ribéry is doing now. His brief run-outs last week for the French national team and for FCB at home to Bremen had been too early for the 26-year-old, the coach reasoned. “I think we took the wrong decision. It was too much for him,” said Van Gaal, who is now hoping Ribéry will resume the squad programme next week. “He might manage 20 minutes against Wolfsburg.”

Good idea to hold off and not rush injured players back into things. Plus I think we can beat Mainz without Ribéry.

If Ribery played today, we'd probably win the match. We can't do anything good without him, and that is really worring me.
