Unfortunately I was wrong about the team actually winning without Ribéry, I guess we are back to where we were last season -- rely on Ribéry. I get the feeling sometimes that Bayern wants to do poorly without him so we can show how much we need him -- if that's the case then I am sure he will leave. We have to be proving we can win without him so he wants to be part of a winning team.

Franck Ribéry has returned to training today. According to fcb.de, he "looked lively and determined".

about time -- and I like that he looked determined. I hope he shows that all those Summer rumours were just that.

In an new interview with "SportBild", Franck Ribéry said:

- he was hurt by the accusations that he faked injuries.
- for every footballer, and especially for him, it's important to be on the field and to play.
- the club means a lot to him and he wants to pay back the club on the pitch.
- he likes Hoeness and values his experience.
- anything is possible about a contract extension.
- it's important how things develop at the club.
- he dreams of winning the Champions League.
- he will give it a try as the 'number 10'.

I like the possibility of a contract extensions, but the point about important how things develop at the club and winning the CL cause serious issues with losing Ribéry unless Bayern turn things around. If he is willing to give it a try as #10, then excellent -- because then if he doesn't work and Bayern has noone else then it will force a formation change-- if it does work out, then we play with the #10 role when Ribéry is available.

Hopefully this is true what he says. When I heard that Ribery didnt want to be number 10 I was thinking this was the beginning of the end for him at Bayern. If he doesnt want to be our playmaker, which he has the best chance at more than anyone else here, it sounded like this was his way of saying dont count on him.
If he were to accept an extension and take on the number 10 role, that would be awesome!!!

I knew Franck Ribery was a classy footballer! Great Franck. I don't him leaving though, but honestly, a true gentleman answering that way. I hope he proves it on the pitch and... FUCK YOU ZIDANE, SPANISH PRESS AND MADRID! YOUR LITTLE MIND GAME DIDN'T WORK!

Ribery told France Football, "It's the first time that I haven't really felt close to a coach. There's not much feeling between us at all.

"Our relationship is professional. It was totally different with Ottmar Hitzfeld, for example.

"He was a real joy to work with and the best coach I've known at Bayern."
Mmm.

This ain't exactly good, IMO. This could present bad vibes for the long term.

I just read this... but IMO its just the same shit as before:

Quote:
PARIS (AP) - Frank Ribery is staying with Bayern Munich this season but says he will end up playing in Spain one day.

Last month, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and manager Uli Hoeness reportedly turned down an offer of €80 million ($112 million) from Real Madrid for the 26-year-old France international.

"Believe me, if I had really wanted to go, I would have done it and you would have heard me," Ribery said in an interview with France Football magazine on Tuesday. "But my intention has never been to have an arm wrestling contest with Bayern... I want to play with the best possible team to win titles. That's what motivates me. At Bayern today, and maybe elsewhere tomorrow."

Ribery met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez's adviser and former France teammate Zinedine Zidane during the summer to talk about a potential transfer to Madrid. He is adamant that he will eventually play in the Spanish League, even if he denies having already signed a pre-contract with Real Madrid for next season.

"One day, I will play in La Liga," Ribery said.

Until then, Ribery will have to work with Bayern coach Louis Van Gaal, who was hired at the end of last season as the permanent replacement for fired coach Juergen Klinsmann.

"He is a very hard, demanding coach, very strict about discipline," Ribery said. "He is very serious, rarely laughs and he is a man of principles. There already had been tension between us... For the moment, there is no feeling between us."

Ribery suggested that Van Gaal's way of working was distracting the whole Bayern team. The German powerhouse is seventh in the Bundesliga standings with five points from four games, five points behind leader Hamburg.

"I have the feeling that the team is not playing freely," Ribery said. "We are not confident. There is too much seriousness. I can see that the group is too oppressed to loosen up."

Funny how that article did not include the following:

Quote:
"Is there an agreement between Bayern and Real for a transfer next summer? Never, I deny it. That is fake. Absolutely nothing has been sorted out so far," he told France Football.

"Bayern officials didn't propose to me any extension. Maybe we will talk. I have never closed any door.

Well of course, that would contradict the flavor they are trying to put out there.

Yep -- alot of media still trying to put a wedge between Ribéry and Bayern. From pictures I saw on Bayerns official website since Summer it looked like Ribéry was happy with the coach and they both were smiling. Sure LvG is a stickler for discipline, and that is good for the team as we all have been hearing how LvG has been speaking with each player and what wonders it has done for the wolfsburg game.

Anyway, it also sounds like Ribéry is surprised that Bayern haven't proposed a contract extension, but the media kept saying how he rejected an extension during the Summer. The media is full of shit. I hope Bayern do offer a great extension by a couple of more years with a massive salary, then after that he can go to La Liga and play for Barca and not Real.

It will be interesting to see if he doesn't mention Madrid at all through the rest of the season.

I love the combination of Ribery and Robben but I want to see everyone else step it up a bit.
