Hartelijk welkom Arjen Robben!

Naturally I was hoping Bayern would choose to strengthen our defense rather than our attack, but I'm still happy with whatever improvements are being made period. Providing this guy stays fit, he should be a great asset.

Nice to see Robben at Bayern even if he is Mr Glass -- Lets hope he and Ribéry can stay fit.

Robben and Ribery... thats going to be a very dangerous combination. If our defense was functioning properly I would say we would have a great chance to win CL.

Your exactly right on that, so Bayern need to do something about the defense.

Robben: ‘I'm really happy that I've signed here’

Quote:
Interview: Arjen Robben

fcbayern.de: Arjen, welcome to Munich! To us it looked like a very fast decision. We heard about it yesterday, today you already signed the contract. Was it really such a fast decision? What did the last days look like for you here?
Arjen Robben: Yeah, it was fast, it all happened fast. Of course it was also a very hectic week for me. I had some things to think about, and in the end I decided that I wanted to come here and play for this great club, and after that it all happened very fast.

fcbayern.de: You’re known as one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, so you could probably have gone to any football club in the world. Why Bayern Munich?
Robben: Well, from the first minute we made contact they gave me a really warm feeling and they made me really feel welcome at this club. My father came here, had a good meeting, and was also convinced that it was best for me to come here. And of course it's a great club with a great history. I'm really happy that I've signed here.

fcbayern.de: Was it a factor that there are some fellow countrymen in this club already? The coach, Louis van Gaal, for example.
Robben: Yeah, I think it also plays a role, I think the coach, van Gaal, is a very good coach for me. He's one of the few coaches today you can learn from as an individual player, so that was a very important thing. And of course van Bommel, who I've known for a very long time, and he helped me come here as well.

fcbayern.de: So there was contact between Mark and you; did he persuade you to come here?
Robben: Well, it was good for me to hear some things about the club, to get some information. He was really happy for me, and he wanted me to come here as well. He was really great help. Thanks to him I'm here as well.

fcbayern.de: Did you have any contact with the coach in the two days?
Robben: Yeah, I spoke to him once, on the phone. He was very clear with me, it was clear what he wanted to do with the team, and my role in the team, so we had a good conversation. It's all these little things that make you feel welcome at this club.

fcbayern.de: What will your role be like? Left-hand side, right-hand side, centre forward...
Robben: I can play on both sides. I'm an attacking player and I've played on the wing the last few years, on the left and the right wing, and I think that will be my role. I don't think they'll put me in goal, I don't think that's a good idea (laughs).

fcbayern.de: We'll talk to the manager about that. Yesterday we called the manager, Uli Hoeneß, and he said if everything works out perfectly, you might have a chance to play against Wolfsburg tomorrow. Is that so, will the Bayern fans have a chance to see you on the pitch tomorrow?
Robben: Well, I hope so. I haven't spoken to the coach about that, but I'm feeling fit, I've been training as normal with Madrid and played a game last Monday. I'm fit to play, but it's also been a hectic week. I've done a lot of speaking on the phone and training, so it was a little bit stressful, but in the end I'm ready to play, so we'll see.

fcbayern.de: Will you join the team in the afternoon training session?
Robben: Yes, first training with the team at 2 o'clock. It's just good to start straight away. I had a good meeting with the doctor this morning, and everything looks perfect, so I'm ready to train and looking forward to playing with this team.

fcbayern.de: One last question. Any idea what the next days will look like? Are there plans about the family coming here already?
Robben: Yeah, I came here with my family, my parents are here with me. Also my wife and son, the most important people for me. Tomorrow my brothers and sisters will come over from Holland, so the whole family will be here, and hopefully we'll have a nice day tomorrow

fcbayern.de: Thank you very much for the first interview, and good luck for the future.
Robben: Thanks!

Even though he has played wing alot I wonder if LvG will work him into the slot behind the forwards in the #10 role -- ironic how he also obtained the #10 shirt - but not for that reason, but I can see Robben playing behind the forwards, just like Ribéry but if Ribéry wants to play left then we can put Schweini or Altinop on the right as well. Anyway, as LvG has said, Robben allows for lots of different options. Now maybe we will stop relying on just Ribéry.
