New centre back?

Bayern Munich join race for Brazilian youngster Mario Fernandes

Quote:
According to a report on Goal.com Germany, Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the situation of Gremio defender Mario Fernandes.

The Bavarians are keen to add an extra defender to their squad after the departure of Brazilian international Lucio to Inter last summer, and head coach Louis van Gaal reportedly considers 19-year-old Mario Fernandes as the perfect candidate.

The versatile teenager, who can act both as a centre-back and as a right-back, made his official debut for Gremio earlier this year and has attracted the interest of several big teams with his impressive performances since.

Sportmediaset claims that reigning Italian champions Inter are also keeping tabs on the hot prospect, while Juventus are believed to be interested in the young defender too.

It's not yet known whether Gremio are interested in cashing in on their prized asset, but they could probably be tempted to let go of Mario Fernandes if a good offer comes in.

To be honest, I do not know him, but FC Bayern already has two talented CBs.

We don't need another Breno or Badstuber, we need an experienced, good CB.

Bayern Munich interested in Benedikt Höwedes?

Quote:
Highly-rated Schalke star Benedikt Hoewedes could be on his way out of the Veltins Arena in January, according to Bild.

The German newspaper suggests that the 21-year-old defender has attracted the interest of both Bundesliga titleholders Wolfsburg and Bavarian powerhouse Bayern Munich with his strong performances this campaign.

Hoewedes is a product of the Schalke youth academy and made his official debut for the Gelsenkirchen side in 2007. He has since made well over 40 league appearances for the Konigsblauen.

Schalke are being plagued by financial worries and are therefore believed to be eager to cash in on Hoewedes in the January transfer window. They've reportedly set a €10 million asking price for the defender.

Höwedes is a centre-back dude! And, we don't need him (or anyone for the CB position, hence why Breno is set to be loaned out).

Höwedes is not FC Bayern quality, not yet at least. Anyway, Hoeness said today that they will not sign anyone in January.

A Romanian report claims that FC Bayern are interested in Auxerre defender Gabriel Tamaş, currently on loan with Dinamo Bucharest.

Again, I do not know him, but FC Bayern already has two talented CBs - Breno (who is set to be loaned out) and Badstuber.

I was talking with Trim about this yesterday. I was wondering what will Badstuber end up being, a CB or a LB? If he is a CB then sending out Breno on a loan is OK.

If not, then Breno should stay as option 3 in the central back department. Badstuber can be the LB starter and Braafheid his substitute which I dont mind (Edson isn't that bad, his just not fully settled yet).

If that is the case, we only need another RB that can be Lahm's substitute.

Breno is a good player and wasted on the bench, he never even gets a chance to replace anyone even when they are injured. I would keep Badstuber as LB as he is playing really well there and solving our LB problem.

This Gabriel Tamas player seems like he would be the same level as Pranjic or Braafheid, but I like that he can use both feet. Looks like his career has him moving around alot but mainly in the eastern based clubs, except Celta Vigo and Auxerre, which makes sense and now loaned back to an eastern club -- which is why he is a relative unknown.

Its too bad Goerlitz wants out because I though he was a very good replacement for Lahm at RB.
