Why go for Hamsik, if Kroos will be comin back next season? Also if Bayern gets Hamsik...Who should he replace? I mean atm the only 2 man midfield is Schweinsteiger and Van Bommel...Since Van Bommel is a certain starter(unfortunate), I doubt Schweini will be content with a sub role and what of Kroos, Baumjohann and Tymoshchuk? Signing new players wont bring peace within the club especially in a tight department like midfield. unless drastic changes are planned.

When Robben and Ribery return, plus with Kroos coming back next season (he's a number 10, not a centre midfielder), methinks we'll change back to 433. Yes, it doesnt suit any of our strikers, but thats Van Gaal's preferred formation. In order to play a 433, you need good midfielders. Currently, we don't have a single midfielder which you can consider to be world class. Van Bommel is an awful DM, Tymos is yet to shown glimpses of his previous form at Zenit, Bastian is average, he can't really carry the midfield by himself and Baumjohan would be in contention for Kroos' role and be a back for the wingers. So lets assume Van Gaal does go back to the 433, I envision something like this:

..........XXXX......XXXX
Robben.......Kroos.......Ribery
................Gomez

For one of the spots, you can easily slot in Hamsik who would be perfect for the #8 role. Then we just need a proper tackler. Perhaps Tymos could be good again if he is given nothing but defensive responsibilities. His passing is lacking which is why he sucks in the position Van Gaal played him, but he is the best tackler in our squad (from the midfielders), so he'd be good there.

As for Bastian not accepting a sub role. Well, he isn't good enough to start, as simple as that. Hamsik is twice the player.

..........Tymos....Hamsik
Robben.......Kroos.......Ribery
................Gomez

Starter --- Reserve
Tymos ---- Ottl
Hamsik --- Bastian
Baum ---- Kroos
Robben --- Müller
Ribery ---- Olic
Gomez --- Klose

Very strong starting line-up, very deep squad with a lot of options on the bench.
