I'm trying to figure out what is in our board's, sporting director's and coach's mind after all these sales.

Hopefully at least is something like this:

    Coman(Gnabry) Lewa(Werner) Sane(Muller)

    Thiago(Goretzka) Rodri(Javi) Toliso(Renato)

    Alaba(Davies) Lucas(De Light) Sule(Javi) Kmmich(Pavard)

    Neuer (vacuum cleaner)

I agree with the tall guy part, but i don't care about the easy games.
One way or another we will win them.
Its those 5% games I do care!

Also as you said at the last part of your post, with players like Thiago, Tolisso, Kimmich and any three fast guys up front we can play fast tempo football with our frontmen moving fast, with or without the ball and creating nice combinations.

Best way to exploit their speed with through balls behind the opponents defencive line.
playing without a big guy upfront will be useful to Bayern in like 5% of their matches, considering we play against teams that only knows how to park the bus and play on counters.

so there will be no passes behind the defense, because they will play so deep it will be impossible.
the modern way of unlocking such teams is fast tempo, fast passing and fast movement without the ball. with highly skilled dribblers in midfield.

    Muller, Rafinha, Boateng Ulreich OUT!!!!!!!!!!
I do believe in James under a new coach if he wants it wholeheartedly!
If not staying, put Brandt in his place fighting for the starter position with Thiago and Goretzka for the CAM position.

    4-3-3

    Coman-Lewa(Werner)-Gnabry(Werner)

    ------James
    ----------------------Tolisso
    ------------Kimmich

    Alaba-Hernandez-Sule-Pavard

    Neuer

    3-4-1-2

    Werner-Lewa

    James

    Alaba-Thiago-Tolisso-Kimmich

    Hernandez-Sule-Pavard

    Neuer

    BENCH
Hummels, DeLight, RB back-up, Javi Martinez, Pepe or CHO, Davies.

Even though I am a true fan of Coman, i'd rather see the 3-4-1-2 formation that he would fit in difficult.....(as a SS perhaps?)

Bayern's gift is its midfielders and here are five formations focused on putting as many CBs and forwards on the pitch at one time. Deluded.

We need a big squad overhaul, but we also need to set out a strategy for what we want. I assume we wanna play the possesion/dominating style of football, but then why hire a defensive minded coach?

The board seems totally lost in their planning. They need to make up their mind, set a direction and then follow it.

4-2-3-1 with monsters in front of defense like Basti + Javi in 2013.
This to cover the space in the back of Alaba and Lahm then, Kimmich now.
If the ones in front of defense aren't disciplined enough to cover those spaces then we will be outcountered every time.
This is what happened with Germany in the WC.
Those things didn't happen so often in 2013.

Our current squad is not suitable for 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Ribery and Robben are leaving. I believe Coman is not the player we are looking for to play on the wings. He just isn't good enough to be starter in a stronger Bayern. And of course his injuries are a major problem. I see the potential in Gnabry, but it's also not his main position. Our youngsters need at least a couple of years on loan to develop.

It would be much easier to change formation than to make a drastic change in our squad. Instead of spending hundreds of millions on winger replacement (or not getting proper wingers, only talents), we could just start playing 3-5-2 (or 4-4-2 diamond).

What we can do in summer:
Leaving players: Ribery, Robben, Coman (40M), Sanches (25M), Boateng (25M), Rafinha
    Buy de Ligt (100M) Hernandez (80M), Pavard (35M) and Werner (50M) = 265M
A grand total of 175M. It is a lot of money, but for a big team which haven't spent a considerable amount in years, it should be affordable. In case we keep James, it will be another 42M.

    GK: Neuer (Ulreich)
Neuer is in a bad form, but we shouldn't change every position this year. If he can regain his abilities, good, if not, we can look for a replacement next year.

Defenders/wings: Kimmich (Pavard), Süle (Pavard), de Ligt (Martinez), Hernandez (Hummels), Alaba (Hernandez)
8 players for 5 positions should be enough. Kimmich can take a bigger part in attacks and Pavard is miles better than Rafinha in that position. Pavard can also play as a CB, so he will get enough opportunities. I would play with a Süle-de Ligt-Hernandez backline with Pavard, Martinez and Hummels as options. Martinez can also play in midfield if necessary. Hernandez can play Alaba's position, so we can give Hummels some playing time.

The central midfield won't change much. It functions well enough. There are many variations here, this is one of them.
Tolisso (Goretzka) - James (Müller) - Thiago (Martinez)
Of course we can sell James (or send him back to Madrid) and buy Brandt instead).

    Strikers:
    Werner (Gnabry) - Lewandowski (Müller)
People are arguing about Lewa but I don't see how we can get an improvement. Please don't say Benzema.

The number of players would be down by 1, and it won't be a problem. We would replace our most injury prone and/or unreliable players. We can also use some of our youngsters in the league to rest our key players. I think this is a realistic scenario and it would improve our squad well enough to be back amongst the top dogs in CL.
