I don't see how a loan would hurt him. If anything, it would be a great opportunity to get back on form. I doubt he'll manage to play that much minutes in Bayern, since Dante is so freaking awesome.

In HSV, he could be a starter easily. Get back on form and Pep Guardiola would be able to see his progress and performances in a first XI.

This might just be my opinion but Badstuber>>>>>> Boateng any day of the week (if both are fit). I don't compare Bads with Dante but rather with Boateng.

      • But Badstuber < Dante. And Badstuber is left footed like Dante. You don't want two left footed players in the center of our defense.

I don't think two left footed is so dire as everyone makes it out to be. Two right foot CBs are played regularly by many teams.

There's a whole article about this.
            Bottom-line: RCB+LCB > RCB+RCB > LCB+LCB.

I have seen those. I just don't necessarily agree.

My eyes hurt and I'm biting my tongue...

I must agree with HSK on this one, I also can't imagine how the loan could hurt Bads, he would get back into shape and excel. The combo Westermann - Badstuber would be more than fine for HSV but that would for FCB mean DvB would extend or we'll get another CB... And while the first possibility is more or less realistical, I can't imagine the second one, so I don't know if there's even a possibility to ship him off to a loan.

Never the less, I am all for that option...

Well to each their own. That is my opinion and you are entitled to yours so let's just agree to disagree.

I would like to see this article because I am sure it is riddled with doubt. There are way too many variables to accurately assess a pairing.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind letting Badstuber out on loan to regain his fitness and form. I don't want to see him out of our top rotation for too long, though.

                    • The best pair is a RCB+LCB and I think everybody agree
and since most of the attackers are right footed , so RCB+RCB > LCB+LCB

now talking about Badstuber, I'm with loaning him for 6 monthes

Why would a right footed player be better against another righty? The feet don't match up 1 on 1. It's like a mirror.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone here. I don't really care either way. I'm just curious.

                        • Badstuber vs. Dante/Boateng shouldn't be about their feet - that's only a minor factor, it's mainly about their skills, and I'm not gonna start that discussion again, everybody knows my viewpoint... Let's just wait for next season and see who will make it under Guardiola...

For the first time in my whole life I heard from LvG about right footed LCB and left footed RCB( or vice versa) and we all know what his defensive approach was and how the team turned out to be. I don't think it's an important factor at all. Partnership and skill, both are above the primary foot IMO. As for loning badstuder I'm not against it specially after considering our latest loanies (Lahm, Alaba, Kroos) I personally see it as a wise move. That's not gonna hurt at all.

                            • I one made a post of good length on the subject explaining why two left-footed CBs don't work out while two right-footed ones do, but as I can't find it I'm going to have to rewrite a shortened version here.

In order to make an effective defensive line, the two CBs must be able to work with one another and be familiar with each other's individual qualities. The vast majority of players in all sports are right-footed, just like in society. That means that any individual CB has a much higher likelihood of being paired with a right-footed partner. It follows, then, that any individual CB, whether they be right-footed or left-footed, has practiced many more times with a right-footed partner than a left-footed one. Furthermore, left-footed CBs are only play in the LCB position (for the optimal foot outside to make the tackle) while right-footed players are commonly played at both LCB and RCB. This means that left-footed players lack the flexibility that right-footed players do. What this all boils down to is that left-footed players really don't know how to play with one another. The lefty playing in the unfamiliar spot, RCB, will be a very different player due to unfamiliarity of the position while the lefty playing LCB won't be familiar with his suddenly more awkward partner.

Now as Bayern101 indicated, there are a ton of variables in the individual pairings as well as the individual players bring a whole new wealth of variables into the equation. I do believe, however, that what I've outlined above still holds true.

                              source: lefty

                              • Fair enough. You very well could be correct. You're a nice dude, so I hope you are. I am just not the type of guy to take ideas as factual. In my research, plenty of logical ideas have turned out to be wrong. I will just go along believing that it doesn't really matter (RR vs LL) and I will continue to respect other's views.
