This new surgery isn't "new" it's been planned for a while now. It was included in the timeframe of his return. Think of it as the halfway point.

        • I didn't expect him to return for a year anyways. Was that because I had read somewhere earlier that such was his expected date of return?

In other words, is this a planned medical operation? Not sure if a doctor would recommend plan/future arthroscopies or ligament reconstructions though- and that might not be the purpose too.

Edit: I'm not the only one then.

            • FC Bayern München centre-half Holger Badstuber has undergone a successful knee operation.

The 24-year-old defender underwent surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament in Colorado on Monday. Badstuber will remain in the USA for the next two days before returning to Munich and commencing a rehabilitation programme.

According to Spiegel Online, the operation has been performed by a knee specialist Richard Steadman in Vail, Colo. Badstuber was being treated for a few days at stationary in the USA. There's no information about his return to training etc, the comeback will definitely take several months.

              Get well soon, Holger!

              • I always shudder when I read Steadman did a surgery.

Imo this guy is far too old to be as good as his reputation. Not anymore and I read an article in which was stated that his success rate isn't anything special either. At least not compared to other specialists around the world.

Breno never recovered afterwards with the same injury and that had significant impact on his mental state. Now Steadman is operating Badstuber for the second time as well.

I'm no doctor but it just makes little sense to me.

                • They should have asked Dr. James Andrews to do this surgery...

..I hope so but, that`s not a certain thing. Nobody knows if Bads will be able to get back at his best. Not going for a new CB next summer would be kind of a gamble imo

On this page, you will find a picture about a new discovery made by Belgians.
                          "Anterolateral ligament"
97% of people knees have this ligament, yet the existense off it was unknown.
Even when they repaired anterior cruciate ligament , like in Holgers case. Many players would refall in the same old injury with instabilty issues and for some ofcourse end of their carreer.

For gods sake, I hope his doctors have watched this...
