Zenit beat Auxerre in Champions League play-offs

Aleksandr Kerzhakov scored in the third minute for Zenit St Petersburg to give the home side a 1-0 victory against Auxerre in a first leg Champions League play-off match played Tuesday.

The Russian international striker gave the home side plenty to cheer about early on, but even though they dominated most of the play, they failed to find a second goal.

Auxerre seemed content to sit back and wait for breaks and had a good chance midway through the first half when Kenyan Dennis Oliech hit the cross-bar.

Later Tuesday Dynamo Kiev face Ajax Amsterdam, while Rosenborg take on FC Copenhagen and Sparta Prague are at home against Zilina.

The final game Tuesday sees Swiss club Young Boys Bern play against Tottenham Hotspur.

Five further matches will be played on Wednesday, with the winners of the two-legged ties advancing to the lucrative group phase of the competition.

The return legs will be played next week.

Marseille have been shitting their pants big time. Actually the team that Gabriel Heinze plays for should be forced to play badly because of his jerkness. I want Bordeaux or Lyon to win it but I don't really know anything about the French leagues except that Eidur Gudjohnsen played at Monaco and failed big time.

Olympique Marseille have been in touch over Nice star Loic Remy – agent

Loic Remy’s agent claims that Olympique de Marseille have been in touch with him over a possible move for the Nice player before the end of the transfer window.

Having shed striker Mamadou Niang to Fenerbahce at the weekend, OM anticipate that Hatem Ben Arfa will leave the club in the coming days, probably to join Werder Bremen, and are therefore in dire need of extra attacking strength.

President Jean-Claude Dassier indicated earlier this week that les Phoceens are in the market for two players, and after a move for Luis Fabiano broke down they appear to be looking closer to home. Already OM have confirmed they have reached an accord with Andre-Pierre Gignac of Toulouse over personal terms, and now it seems their other target is Remy, who has been heavily courted by several Premier League outfits this summer.

“OM contacted me, it’s true,” Frederic Guerra noted to RMC. “I can just confirm that I am working hard tonight.”

It is envisaged that Remy will cost €13 million (Ł10.7m), a fee that will be funded largely by the club’s recent sales.

Marseille, however, face competition from Hoffenheim, who were also in discussions with the forward’s agent. Remy has previously also been linked with Premier League sides Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City.

Paris Saint-Germain join race for Lille's Eden Hazard.
Ligue 1 Player of the Season Eden Hazard could be on his way out of French champions Lille this summer as Paris Saint-Germain have shown an interest in luring the winger to the capital, Infosport+ reports.

The Paris side have recently been taken over by Qatari investors, and are keen to add some renowned names to their squad this summer, with a number of high-profile targets emerging, including Hazard.

PSG reportedly see the 20-year-old as the perfect player to realise their ambitions, and are ready to launch a move for the Belgian.

Hazard has a contract until the summer of 2015 with Lille, and the French champions have reportedly set a €35 million asking price for the talented winger.

Aside from PSG, clubs such as Inter, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been linked with Hazard, but Lille general director Frederic Paquet recently stated that the Belgian youngster will stay put for another season
