He didn't really seem to go forwards much at all, he definitely sat back more and focused on keeping possession within the team with quick one or two touch passes or building an attack from the midfield. The few times Espanyol's CBs actually had the ball in their half they always seemed to look for Roca who initiated the ball moving forward.

We need that guy, even if he isn't the Javi 2013 type of player!

okay then he is indeed a number six then. who's playing style is very different than our box to box players. he can give Thiago some freedom going forward so we can reduce the risk of his reckless play-style at the back and benefit of his creativity up-front.

we should just cough those freaking 40 Millions or find someone who's better than him ..

He’s Thiago lite. His control of the game and passing and vision is the best part of his game. His defensive ability is not of that if Javi. It’s more of the style of Thiago. He’s obviously isn’t at thiagos level. But that’s the best way I can describe him is a taller Thiago who has the potential to play more physical. I think spending 40mill on him should be a no brained. Especially since we have Thiago and Javi for him to learn from who are both Spanish and I’m sure would put him under their wing.

Just go all in for Kante and make it the actual best transfer period that was already "planned"

To not be convinced of this kids skills for 40mill (in todays market) shows how incompetent our board is.

Just a reminder that Jupp wanted Martinez precisely because he wasn't just a pure destroyer like Gustavo/Tymoshchuk, but could actually play with the ball at his feet.

I feel like pure destroyers are a dying breed in modern football.

True. Even Casemiro turned into a really good passer and constantly goal threat from long shots.

Acording to few members Cuisance is more like Thiago.
So besides Javi we still don’t have CDM.
Or Im wrong at Cuisance role in roster?
Still he is unproved...

My post was clear we need Javi kinde of player. Good with the ball, smart in reading the game and covering defensive job and making Dante look good.
No more counterattacks goal with 4231 with CDM!!!

So here's the thing: "CDM" is just another meaningless word nowadays, just like "six." You're not wrong for using it (like seriously, what else are we going to call it), but the classic definitions no longer apply. Thiago is in many ways a CDM - including the most important way: he plays a deep role and is typically instructed to be a ball-winner. While I firmly agree that Cuisance is more like Thiago than Gustavo, Thiago is for all intents and purposes our CDM. We bought Cuisance to play that role as Thiago's backup/deputy.

Feel free to disagree with the fact that Thiago is a CDM, my only point is that we use him in the only currently-existing way that is closest to a classic CDM. In that way, so too is Cuisance.

We can call that position whaterwer we like but it is one of the most important position in modern football.
I agree that Thiago can play that role but midfield where Thiago have Javi (or someone who is more defensive) is more balanced and better midfield and can make our defence better in general.
Jup with Javi and Zidan with Casemiro made their defence better and give space to crative and attacking midfield and forward players space and time.
We need someone to beckup Thiago and maby Coutinho but our roster is not suite for that.
Conclusion:
Thiago Javi Coutinho > Coutinho Thiago Goretzka
...im talking games vs top 10 clubs in CL.
