France have conceded 4 goals out of 4 (5 in the whole tournament) knock-out games. That's not solid at all lol

They conceded one goal in the group stage (from a penalty mind you)

In the knockout stages three goals came from one game but they managed to concede zero goals against Belgium and Uruguay. Against Belgium they defended extremely well and the fact that a team with Lukaku, Hazard, and De Bruyne up front couldn't get a goal in says something.

In the final they conceded one really good goal and another one from a really really stupid blunder which still confuses me.

Outside of the game against Argentina I would say they were extremely solid.

Yeah, it says that Belgium sucked butt in that match.

God, Belgium would make such a much more fun champion than the baguettes.

They didn't concede any goal vs an Uruguay side who was missing out on their most prominent attacker though.

Belgium have so much offensive potential yet they showed they can brilliantly waste it.

On the other hand, they did struggle vs a powerful yet disorganized Argentina and they conceded 2 in a final vs an exhausted Croatian side.

To take into account other world champions, to put up a comparison, let's see what kind run the last 3 sides that eventually went on claiming the whole thing had:

Italy 2006:

Italy 2:0 Ghana
Italy 1:1 USA (own goal)
Italy 2:0 Czechia
Italy 1:0 Australia
Italy 3:0 Ukraine
Italy 2:0 e.t. Germany
Italy 1:1 France (non-existing penalty)

2 goals conceded, none from open play, 1 during knock-out stage.

Spain 2010:

Spain 0:1 Switzerland
Spain 2:0 Honduras
Spain 2:1 Chile
Spain 1:0 Portugal
Spain 1:0 Paraguay
Spain 1:0 Germany
Spain 1:0 aet Netherlands

2 goals conceded, 0 during knock-out stages.

Germany 2014:

Germany 4:0 Portugal
Germany 2:2 Ghana
Germany 1:0 USA
Germany 2:1 aet Algeria
Germany 1:0 France
Germany 7:1 Brazil
Germany 1:0 aet Argentina

4 goals conceded, 2 during knock-out stages. Although I'll give the Germans they conceded their last goal as they were leading by 7 nil up.

5 goals conceded into account does not really make France's campaign impressive to me. They showed good defensive display, they coped decently vs some team deploying nice attacking talent but nothing too impressive given the last 3 editions if you ask me.

I really wouldn't count the second goal Croatia scored as something wrong with France's defense as it was just Lloris being really really stupid.
I don't think their performance against Belgium should really be written off however.

please take notice that I wasn't among those who didn't like the way France played.

if we adopt similar tactics and be as efficient I will be the happiest Bayern supporter here.

No one wants fucking possesion play, just don't kill the game like Deschamps did.

if we are going to talk like this, then the same can be said about Germany for example in 2014 ... Algeria wasted tons of chances, they could've scored 5 goals
Argentina also wasted several chances, thanks to Higuain & Palacio

Or Spain when Paraguay scored a goal but was wrongly ruled offside and then missed a penalty in the 2nd half
And when Robben missed two 1 on 1 situations in the final ...

The fact is France did struggle vs Argentina and they had a bad defensive performance in this match, but in all the other matches, they were very solid defensively

At some point during the match you get this feeling that it will be impossible for their opponents to score

Yes, because there are only two ways of playing football in the world. Damn you're funny, Tommy.
