It's not the 50+1 rule that is holding Bundesliga clubs back. It's the shit management of those clubs that is holding them back. Bayern have succeeded under the same rules all other Bundesliga clubs operate too.

Well to be fair, Munich was always one of the more affluent parts of Germany. Clubs in former East Germany almost have no chance to make it up on their own. Which is why I'm fine with Leipzig doing what they're doing

Hamburg is an affluent city-state, and HSV were successful back in the days. But the club got run down by the management. Dortmund got run down by the management too. Schalke and Leverkusen have both suffered from their management as well.

Eastern Germany is a different thing altogether, DDR completely destroyed professional football there, so pointless to even bring it up.

The point is that the 50+1 rule gets blamed for the incompetence of club management in German football.

It was the end of the DDR and state funded clubs that fucked the eastern clubs after the reunification, they just couldn't compete.

Shit management is what ruins the Bundesliga clubs, look at Werder Bremen, they had successful years with UCL football, but they failed to make the right investments during that success and they are a low table team these days.

It was the corruption and party favoritism in the DDR-Oberliga that destroyed East German football, and all other such state inference in general. That's why only the more traditional clubs survived for some time after the fall of the wall, but because of the state inference prior to it, they simply weren't equipped to compete in a league free of state influence where other clubs had grown organically.
