Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Leverkusen lose Rolfes for a month
Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder Simon Rolfes is set to miss the rest of pre-season preparations after tearing a muscle in his knee.

Quote:
The Germany international was forced to leave the Leverkusen training camp in Borkum, northern Germany, in order to undergo surgery as soon as possible. He is likely to be out for four weeks.

Race to be fit

Rolfes now faces a race to be fit for the new season and there are serious question marks over whether he will be able to participate in Bayer's first competitive match of the season, a DFB Cup match against SV Babelsberg 03 in the first week of August. The injury comes as a blow to head coach Jupp Heynckes, who is focused on getting his new squad ready for the Bundesliga kick-off on 8 August.

German Youngster Lars Bender Joins Bayer Leverkusen With Immediate Effect

Quote:
The young midfielder will join up with his new team earlier than initially agreed upon...

According to a report in Abendzeitung, Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have signed highly rated midfielder Lars Bender from 1860 Munich with immediate effect.

Both German teams had initially agreed that Bender would remain at 1860 for one more season, but Leverkusen expressed their desire to sign Bender with immediate effect earlier this week and things accelerated from there on.

Bender has confirmed the transfer and made it clear that he's happy that his situation is finally clarified.

"I've already said goodbye to my team-mates, which was very hard for me. However, I'm glad that I finally know where my future lies. I'll travel to Leverkusen later on Tuesday," Bender was quoted as saying.

Lars Bender is the twin brother of Sven Bender, who left 1860 Munich this summer in order to join Borussia Dortmund.

Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling advisor, Ali Bulut, was quoted by "The Sun" as saying:

"Six or seven clubs have requested a transfer, including English and Spanish top clubs, plus Bayern München."

My question is... another striker? For what? It would be a complete waste of money, unless we end up selling Gomez/Klose. Besides if we get him, ge'd screw up more the German NT.

You got it wrong mate. The article says Kiessling used to be an issue. His agent said FC Bayern had shown interest in Kiessling while he was still playing for FC Nürnberg, before moving to Neverkusen in 2006. His agent says there has been no contact with FC Bayern since then.

Bayer 04 keeper René Adler will miss Saturday’s home game against Hannover 04. According to the team doctor Dr. Achim Münster, the Germany goalkeeper sustained the injury in last weekend’s game against VfB Stuttgart but treatment will not involve an operation. At the moment, it is unclear whether Adler will have to miss any more matches after the Hannover game. “According to the doctors, this type of fracture should heal quickly so I’m cautiously optimistic,” declared Adler.

A replacement for Germany’s number one has yet to be announced for the Hannover game on Saturday. “Fabian Giefer and Benedikt Fernandez have shown what they can do in goal in Bundesliga games. Both players enjoy our full support,” explained Jupp Heynckes who will not make his final choice of Adler’s replacement before the weekend.

Official: Theofanis Gekas Leaves Bayer Leverkusen For Eintracht Frankfurt

Quote:
The Greek international has left Leverkusen for an adventure in Frankfurt...

Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the transfer of Greek attacker Theofanis Gekas for a fee of €1 million. The prolific striker has left Bayer Leverkusen for a two-year deal with Eintracht.

Coach Michael Skibbe has revealed his desire to add some more depth to his squad on more than one occasion and has now finally gotten his attacking reinforcements.

Gekas joined Bayer Leverkusen from Panathinaikos in 2007, but the 29-year-old attacker never really managed to secure regular first team at the Werkself and was farmed out on loan to Hertha Berlin last winter.

The striker had an ongoing contract with Bayer Leverkusen, but was reluctant to return to the Europa League hopefuls and asked to be transferred this summer.

Gekas will probably form a partnership with compatriot Ioannis Amanatidis up front at his new club.

Official: Bayer Leverkusen Sign Hamburg Forward Sidney Sam

Leverkusen have secured the services of Sidney Sam from Hamburger SV...

Ambitious Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have secured the services of promising attacking midfielder Sidney Sam from Hamburger SV for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old Sam is a product of the Hamburg youth academy, but failed to break into the first team at HSV. Therefore, the attacking midfielder was farmed out on loan to Kaiserslautern last term.

The Werkself were in the market for a new attacking midfielder due to the departure of Toni Kroos back to Bayern Munich and head coach Jupp Heynckes considers Sam to be the perfect replacement.

"Sidney Sam has been one of the most exciting players around in the 2. Bundesliga last season and played a major role in Kaiserslautern's promotion. I think he will do a great job with us," said Heynckes on the official Bayer website.

Sam has signed a five-year deal at his new club and is Bayer's third signing of the summer transfer window.

Bayer Leverkusen After Hannover Midfielder Hanno Balitsch - Report

Quote:
The midfielder appears to be on his way back to Bayer Leverkusen...

According to a report in Kicker, Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are considering making a move for midfielder Hanno Balitsch, currently under contract with Hannover.

Leverkusen have qualified for Europa League football next term and are eager to add depth to their squad in the summer transfer window. Balitsch is one of the candidates to strengthen Bayer.

The 29-year-old previously enjoyed a spell at the Werkself from 2002 to 2004, but then left Leverkusen for an adventure at Mainz. Balitsch moved on to Hannover a season later and has since made well over 100 official appearances for the Roten.

Balitsch's contract with Hannover comes to an end in a few weeks' time and he is widely expected to leave on a free. Bayer could offer the midfielder a contract in the upcoming days.

Bayer Leverkusen After Hertha Defender Arne Friedrich - Report

Quote:
The German international appears to be on his way to Bayer Leverkusen...

Ambitious Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are considering making a move for experienced Hertha Berlin defender Arne Friedrich this summer, according to a report in Kicker.

The Werkself are determined to add some more depth to their defence ahead of next season and head coach Jupp Heynckes has supposedly made Friedrich one of the club's primary targets on the transfer market.

Friedrich is eager to leave Hertha Berlin after the club's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga and has attracted the interest of several Bundesliga sides. Aside from Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Koeln are also believed to be keeping tabs on the 30-year-old.

The German international joined Hertha from Arminia Bielefeld in the summer of 2002 and has since made well over 200 league appearances for the Alte Dame.

Bayer Leverkusen have already secured the services of Domagoj Vida, Sidney Sam and Zvonko Pamic.

Official: Freiburg Loan Bayer Leverkusen Youngster Zvonko Pamic

Quote:
The Croatian midfielder will ply his trade at Freiburg next term...

Bundesliga outfit Freiburg have completed the transfer of young midfielder Zvonko Pamic from Bayer Leverkusen on a two-year loan deal. Freiburg have confirmed the transfer on their official website.

Leverkusen recently signed the Croatian youngster from Karlovac and immediately revealed that the 19-year-old would be farmed out on loan to another German side in order to gain first team experience.

Freiburg avoided the drop to the 2. Bundesliga this term and are eager to add to their ranks ahead of next season. Head coach Robin Dutt had made the capture of a new midfielder his primary target on the transfer market.

"Leverkusen have signed one of Croatia's most promising youngsters on a long-term deal. We are delighted that Zvonko has now decided to join Freiburg on loan and that he wants to start his Bundesliga career with us," said Freiburg's sporting director Dirk Dufner.

The midfielder has inked a deal with Bayer Leverkusen...

Ambitious Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have secured the services of highly rated midfielder Hanno Balitsch from Hannover 96 on a free transfer. The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Leverkusen.

The Werkself were eager to sign a new midfielder to cover for the injury prone Simon Rolfes, and head coach Jupp Heynckes had made Balitsch his primary target on the transfer market.

Balitsch joined Hannover from Mainz in the summer of 2005 and has made well over 100 Bundesliga appearances for Hannover so far. The midfielder had an expiring contract though and was eager to move to a bigger club.

The one-time capped Germany international previously enjoyed a spell at Bayer Leverkusen from 2002 until 2005.

"Hanno Balitsch is a very energetic player and is a very strong battler in midfield. He will really add something to the team. Hanno will be a very important player for us next season, both in the domestic league and in international competition," said Leverkusen's sporting director Rudi Voeller on the club's official website.
